BC Bound

I know there are people who are comfortable putting their dog in a crate in the cargo section of an airplane, I am not one of those people.

I enjoy traveling, but I really do not enjoy having to leave Zoe behind for the adventure. So when it came time this summer to go on an adventure in remote British Columbia I was excited, and at the same time so bummed I couldn’t bring Zoe on an exploration I know she would love. Thankfully, Cicciu’s human was going to watch her while I was away so I knew she was in fantastic care.

We left for the airport in the early morning and while I was struggling saying by to Zoe she was already kissing Cicciu and excited for whatever the day might hold with him in her sight. While I knew all the trails she would love to be running down and scents she would desire to explore, she was just happy to be with Cicciu and excited for the immediate moment, for she had no idea was she was going to be missing.

Let’s just take a moment and say how great dogs are like that, I mean no hesitation, no “I am not sure, should I, but if I do, I don’t know…” nope, just pure complete, “I am ready, let’s do it RIGHT NOW.” I know I could use some of that more in my daily life.

So off I went on my adventure, and off Zoe went on hers, both exciting in their own way, both full of exploration and fun.

Zoe found a ball at the beach…

Zoe explored a trail…

I enjoyed a bare bones bonfire dinner on a river with sticks for skewers with local sausage, and recent bear tracks near by while watching my fly fishing…

Most importantly I recharged. I spent an entire week off of Facebook and Twitter and Instagram, read a full book cover to back, watched no television, and spent as much time as possible outside each day. I was able to spend some awesome time with family, explore a trail on mountain bikes, see my mom’s artwork featured in a gallery, get caught in a rainstorm, enjoy hours floating down a river, and partake in the amazing farmers market…

I came back with full appreciation for the land and people and a yearning to explore and spend more time outside. I came back with not only more appreciation for my life, but for also for the one being who has taught me more about myself and relationships than I ever could have imagined. I came back shinning, and so excited to share with Zoe this new found yearning for adventure.
