Sharing is Caring

When I was a kid there were a group of multi-colored bears and characters on a children’s show called the Care Bears. The creators were probably focused on better living through chemistry based on the amount of rainbows that would shoot out through the bears belly’s. But when I was 6 years old I thought these colorful cuddly bears were fantastic.

They had a saying on the show; “sharing is caring.” And when you’re a kid who is not allowed to watch much TV (in retrospect a great move, thanks mom & dad!) whenever you did catch a show, it stuck.

I don’t think most dogs have seen a Care Bears episode because sharing is avery tricky thing for them. As a dog, everything is all about resources, sharing your resources doesn’t mean caring, it means you have less resources for later. Unless you are Zoe and Cicciu.

Cicciu spent a few nights with us recently and I think they have secretly been watching Care Bears on Netflix at night while I sleep. Because these two alpha dogs share beautifully. If I give Zoe a treat she looks at Cicciu and she doesn’t want to snap at him, because she loves him, so she licks his mouth, as if to say, “I really love you and you can have my resource, I would prefer you didn’t, but I will give it to you.” And Cicciu will always leave a few kibble in his bowl for her to finish.

Ah the joys of true love… now if the rest of the world would just get on board!
